FACING COVID

News headlines sweep across the nation. States are on lockdown. Grocery store shelves are vacant. Families continue to fear the unknown. With rising concerns in the community over the COVID-19 pandemic, Bowie County Local Health Authority Matt Young takes his stand on what steps Texarkana should take in order to fight the spread of the virus locally.

IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT

The sounds and shouting of anger and betrayal penetrated her bedroom walls, the place she had at one time decided was safe. She ran, sneaking out her bedroom window to a friend’s house that became her temporary safe haven. After nights and nights of running, the friend’s house down the street didn’t seem to get her far enough away from the tragedies unfolding at home, so she left.

COPYCAT

On Nov. 4, YouTuber Miranda Sings shared a video with her 10.8 million subscribers about her process of becoming a VSCO girl. At 4:53 in the video, she used a photo that I took for a culture story on the Tiger Times Online website. My first reaction was pure excitement that a celebrity I love has used a piece of my work in her video. I went to the description in the hope of seeing my name listed for photo credits, but it was not there.

SLAIN ON LOVER'S LANE

Texarkana is a small town. It’s not a place that’s known for skyrocketing to the top of news headlines, but one of the few exceptions is 1946. A tragedy struck in this desolate town, a tragedy referred to by numerous names: “The Town That Dreaded Sundown,” “The Moonlight Murders” or the “Phantom Killer Attacks.” Despite the varying titles, the sorrow over the lost victims was shared from one individual to the next.

TIGERS DUNK ON THE LEAPORDS

Ten seconds remain on the board. It’s a tied game until Texas High drains in a final layup followed by a free throw shot. On Nov. 15, the Tigers and Leopards battled it out on the court with a final score of 46-43, the Tigers taking the win.
